چکیده

To test a possible color–octet contribution of heavy quarkonium productions, we propose ψ’–productions for small–pT regions, where the color–singlet ψ’ state cannot be produced by the gluon–gluon fusion owing to charge conjugation. We also point out that these processes are very useful to deduce informations of spin–dependent gluon distributions ∆g. PACS numbers: 13.85.Ni, 13.88.+e, 14.20.Dh, 14.40.Lb, 14.70.Dj Recently, it has been reported that the cross sections of heavy quarkonium productions measured in unpolarized pp̄ collisions by the CDF collaboration are inconsistent with the calculation with the lowest order processes alone[1]. Several groups have proposed new mechanisms: the production proceeds with not only color–singlet but also color–octet quarkonim states and this new mechanism dominates over the lowest order processes for large–pT quarkonium productions[2]. But it does not seem to work for γ+p→ J/ψ+X[3]. The discussion on the color–octet contribution is still controversial. Thus, it is important to test this mechanism in other experiments. On the other hand, measurements of the spin–dependent structure functions of a nucleon g1(x,Q 2) for polarized deep inelastic scatterings (PDIS) imply a surprizing result that the amount of the proton spin carried by quarks, (∼ 30%), is much smaller than expected E–mail: [email protected] , Phone: +81–6–879–8940 , Fax: +81–6–879–8899 .

Gluon topology and the spin structure of the constituent quark

has inspired much theoretical and experimental effort to understand the internal spin structure of the nucleon [ 1]. A key issue [ 2] is the role of the axial anomaly in the transition from parton to constituent quark degrees of freedom in low energy QCD. In this paper I explain why some fraction of proton’s spin may be carried by gluon topology. The topological contribution has support only at...

Generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions of the nucleon

Parton distributions play an important role in the QCD description of hard scattering processes. In particular, generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) have extensively been studied during the last decade. We focus here on the most general form of quark-quark correlation functions, the socalled generalized transverse momentum depende...

Proton spin structure from measurable parton distributions.

We present a systematic study of the proton spin structure in terms of measurable parton distributions. For a transversely polarized proton, we derive a polarization sum rule from the leading generalized parton distributions appearing in hard exclusive processes. For a longitudinally polarized proton, we obtain a helicity decomposition from well-known quark and gluon helicity distributions and ...

Positivity constraints for spin-dependent Parton distributions.

We derive new positivity constraints on the spin-dependent structure functions of the nucleon. These model independent results reduce considerably their domain of allowed values, in particular for the chiral-odd parton distribution h1(x). Generalized parton correlation functions for a spin-0 hadron

The fully unintegrated, off-diagonal quark-quark correlator for a spin-0 hadron is parameterized in terms of so-called generalized parton correlation functions. Such objects are of relevance for the phenomenology of certain hard exclusive reactions. In particular, they can be considered as mother distributions of generalized parton distributions on the one hand and transverse momentum dependent...

Recent progress in the understanding of single spin asymme - tries

Over the past years a lot of progress has been made in the understanding of single spin asymmetries in hard scattering processes. We briefly review this subject, covering the non-vanishing of time-reversal odd parton distributions, universality of fragmentation functions, and the discovery of previously unknown timereversal odd parton distributions at subleading twist. Interestingly enough, all...
